GOALS
Know the MND Mission.
The National Doctoral Student Movement (MND) emerged in a context of underrepresentation of doctoral students in academia and the scientific community in Portugal, during a period marked by labor adversity and global unpredictability. The MND's role is to represent doctoral students at the national level and propose measures and policies to integrate doctoral students into their academic circles and civil society.
Founded in July 2025, the MND proposes the institutionalization of representation for doctoral students, seeks to improve conditions for research in the 3rd cycle of studies, and advocates for increased recognition of the role of doctoral students and the granting of more rights to those they represent.

AGENDA
The National Doctoral Student Movement (MND) proposes the institutionalization of the representation of doctoral students, seeks to improve conditions for research in the 3rd cycle of studies and advocates for increased recognition of the role of doctoral students and the granting of more rights to those it represents.
The MND's work will be constant, renewable, and adaptable. The MND prioritizes institutional initiatives and will therefore seek to maintain direct, open, and ongoing dialogue with the Government of the Republic, Regional Governments, the Rectory of HEIs, and other bodies.
Academia
Training and Careers
Strengthening the proximity of Academic and Student Associations/Federations to the 3rd cycle of studies;
Mandatory representation of PhD students on General Councils, as per specific regulations;
Standardization of the framework for the European Doctorate title at Universities;
Abolition of completion fees for Doctoral courses.
Creation of mentoring programs for academic and non-academic careers;
Dissemination of investment in career counseling programs, through the creation of support structures for PhD students in HEIs.
Scholarships and work
The replacement of scholarship contracts with employment contracts for Doctorates;
The right to medical consultation at work for all doctoral students.
WHO
WE ARE
The MND is organized around a working structure composed of doctoral students from various Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). Each HEI represented in the MND has a local Movement representative. The MND is committed, whenever possible, to ensuring gender-balanced representation among local representatives and in its national coordination, promoting inclusion and reflecting the diversity of the academic community.
